I received a link today from the British “American Idol.” A small girl, Connie, six-years old with no front teeth stepped onto the stage in front of the surley Simon. She opened her little mouth and sang a beautiful version, as simple as simple can be, of Some Where Over the Rainbow. It brought the house down.
Simplicity. Even Surley Simon was blown away and gave her a thumbs up. All the hype. All of the glitter. Smash it.
Out of the mouth of a babe was a lesson bigger than the song. If only more of us could remember it when we meet to lead. Be present. Speak from the heart. The Basics done equisitely well. Simplicity. It works. Who didn’t want to follow this child to the edge of the rainbow?
